Ronaldo was born in 1976. His full name is Luiz Nazario de Lima
Ronaldo. When he was younger he used to play football in the waste ground of the Bento
Ribeiro area of Rio de Janeiro. Here he was also born. At the age of 13 in August 1990 he was paying for a second division club in Brazil called Sao Cristavao and scored a hat trick in a 5-2 win. In 1993 he was sold to the Cruzeiro of Belo Horizonte team. He quickly won a senior place scoring 58 goals in 60 games. After the world cup in 1994 he was transferred to PSV Eindhoven. Here he scored 30 goals in 34 games. In the 1995-1996 season Ronaldo was kept out with a knee injury, but early in 1996 he was transferred to Barcelona for £12.8 million, the second highest fee at the time. In 1996-1997 he became top goalscorer in Europe with 34 goals in 42 matches. He also helped Barcelona to the European Cup Winners' Cup scoring the only goal. In 1997 he was transferred to Internazionale in Milan for a record of £19.8 million. Later though he moved to Real Madrid the Spanish champions. He has great speed, skill, strength and a powerful shot. Ronaldo made his debut as a striker for Brazil (right) aged 17 in March 1994. In 29 internationals he scored 25 goals. He is my number 2. |
